Meet Mr.  Andre Byrd: Inspiring Excellence On and Off the Field

Greetings Stockbridge High School Families,

It is my honor and privilege to welcome you to another exciting year at Stockbridge High School. My name is Andre Byrd, and I am proud to serve as your Athletic Director. Whether you are a returning Tiger family or joining us for the first time, I want to personally welcome you to our athletic community. I am excited to work alongside our outstanding student-athletes, dedicated coaches, supportive families, and committed staff as we continue building a tradition of excellence in everything we do.

I was raised in Decatur, Georgia, and am a proud graduate of Columbia High School, where I competed in football, baseball, and basketball. Those experiences taught me valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, discipline, and leadership that continue to shape my philosophy as an educator and athletic administrator.

Following high school, I continued my football career at both Morris Brown College and Fort Valley State University while earning my Bachelor of Science degree in 2004. Committed to lifelong learning and educational leadership, I later completed a Graduate Program in Technology in Education from Lesley University in 2008, earned a Master of Science in Special Education from Grand Canyon University in 2012, and received my Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University in 2016.

My educational career began in Newton County Schools, where I proudly served from 2007 to 2017 as a Special Education teacher while also coaching as Head Baseball Coach, Head Wrestling Coach, and Assistant Head Football Coach. Those experiences allowed me to mentor student-athletes both inside and outside the classroom while helping build competitive programs centered on accountability, discipline, and character.

In 2017, I accepted the opportunity to serve as Assistant Athletic Director at Creekside High School in Fairburn, Georgia. During my three years there, I gained valuable experience in athletic administration, event management, compliance, budgeting, facilities, and student-athlete development. In 2020, I was honored to become the Athletic Director at Stockbridge High School, where I have the privilege of leading one of the premier athletic programs in Henry County.

At Stockbridge High School, we believe athletics are an extension of the classroom. Participation in athletics teaches life skills that prepare students for success long after the final whistle. Our coaches are committed to developing young men and women who demonstrate integrity, resilience, accountability, sportsmanship, leadership, and respect. While we strive for championships and competitive excellence, our greatest measure of success is producing graduates who are prepared to lead in college, careers, military service, and their communities.

As Athletic Director, I oversee all aspects of our athletic program, including student-athlete eligibility, coaching support, scheduling, facilities, transportation, budgeting, game-day operations, and compliance with the rules and regulations of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA). I also work closely with our administration, faculty, coaches, parents, booster organizations, and community partners to ensure every student-athlete has access to opportunities that promote growth, achievement, and personal development.

I firmly believe that the success of our athletic program depends on strong partnerships between our school, families, and community. Your encouragement, involvement, and support make a tremendous difference in the lives of our student-athletes. Together, we can create an environment where every Tiger is challenged to compete with excellence, represent our school with pride, and grow into responsible young adults.

As we begin this school year, I encourage all students to become involved in athletics, whether as a participant, student manager, athletic trainer, team supporter, or member of our Tiger fan base. Being involved creates lasting friendships, builds confidence, strengthens school spirit, and creates memories that will last a lifetime.

Thank you for your continued support of Stockbridge High School Athletics. I look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our student-athletes and working alongside each of you throughout the year. Together, we will continue to build a culture where excellence is expected, character is developed, and Tiger Pride is on full display.

If you have any questions regarding our athletic programs, please feel free to contact me at Andre.Byrd@henry.k12.ga.us or by phone at (770) 474-8747. My door is always open, and I welcome the opportunity to connect with our families and community.

Thank you for your support, and I wish everyone a safe, successful, and memorable school year.

Sincerely,

Mr. Andre Byrd, Ed.S. CMAA
