Welcome to the Social Studies Department

At Stockbridge High School, our Science Department is dedicated to fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the natural world. Through rigorous, hands-on instruction led by passionate, highly qualified educators, students build a strong foundation in scientific principles and develop essential skills in inquiry, analysis, and problem-solving.

Our science courses extend far beyond textbooks and formulas. From laboratory investigations to real-world applications, students are encouraged to explore, question, experiment, and discover. Whether studying biology, chemistry, physics, or environmental science, learners engage in meaningful experiences that illuminate how science shapes our daily lives and drives innovation.

By promoting exploration, creativity, and scientific literacy, the Science Department prepares students to succeed in college, careers, and an ever-evolving global society. OUR PROGRAMS


At Stockbridge High School, our social studies programs encourage students to explore a wide range of disciplines, deepening their understanding of society, culture, government, and the world around them. Through engaging instruction, inquiry-based learning, and real-world connections, our programs equip students with the knowledge and critical-thinking skills necessary for active citizenship, college readiness, and career success. By examining historical events, geographic patterns, economic systems, and civic responsibilities, students develop informed perspectives and the ability to analyze complex global issues.

African American Studies
Students examine the historical, cultural, political, and social contributions of African Americans from ancient Africa to the present day. This course emphasizes critical analysis of primary sources, social movements, and the ongoing impact of African American experiences on American and global society.

World History
Students study major civilizations and global developments from ancient times to the modern era. This course explores political systems, economic structures, cultural interactions, and historical turning points that have shaped the contemporary world.

American Government / Civics
Students explore the foundations of the U.S. government, including the Constitution, the branches of government, civil liberties, and civic responsibilities. The course encourages informed civic engagement and responsible participation in democracy.

Human Geography
Students analyze the relationships between people, places, and environments. Topics include population patterns, migration, cultural diffusion, urban development, and globalization, helping students understand spatial patterns and global interdependence.

Personal Finance / Economics
Students develop an understanding of economic principles and financial literacy. Topics include budgeting, saving, investing, credit, supply and demand, and the role of government in the economy, preparing students for responsible financial decision-making.

Honors Social Studies Programs
Designed for advanced learners, our honors programs offer accelerated, rigorous instruction that challenges students to deepen their understanding of historical inquiry, research, and critical thinking. These courses prepare students for advanced academic study.

Advanced Placement (AP) Social Studies Programs
Our Advanced Placement programs offer college-level instruction aligned with College Board standards. Students engage in in-depth content analysis, analytical writing, document-based questions, and exam preparation, with opportunities to earn college credit.
